This one-man operation factory case study shows how Ingenious Machinery (formerly YDPM) built a fully automated CNC turning line for an automotive parts manufacturer in the Czech Republic. By pairing CNC lathes with gantry loaders and in-process measurement, the project minimized the factory’s dependence on human labor while holding the tight precision automotive parts demand.
Background
In 2017, the owner of an automotive parts factory in the Czech Republic wanted to build a one-man factory to minimize dependence on human labor. After several months of searching, the owner chose to work with Ingenious Machinery (formerly YDPM). The project was especially challenging because automotive part processing requires high precision. With that goal and uncompromised precision in mind, Ingenious Machinery assembled a team of senior engineers to design the automated production line.
Process and Challenges
Ingenious Machinery designed three sets of ML-560S lathes with gantry loaders for part processing. The real challenge was integrating an auto flushing system, a laser measuring system, and an auto offset compensation system into the manufacturing process.
Water was the first approach for cleaning the parts, until we found that water droplets interfered with the laser measurement. In the end, Ingenious Machinery chose a pneumatic flushing system, which required very specific placement of the air-blow holes.
Solution
Three ML-560S CNC lathes with gantry loaders, an auto flushing system, a laser measuring system, and an auto offset compensation system — engineered to run as a single automated, one-man-operation cell.
Results and Conclusion
The project took five months to complete. After overcoming numerous challenges and several visits to Czechia to support installation, the automated production line is still running precisely and smoothly to this day, enabling near-unmanned, round-the-clock turning.
Frequently Asked Question
Q: What is a one-man operation factory?
A: A one-man operation factory uses automation — such as CNC lathes with gantry loaders and in-process measurement — so a single operator can oversee an entire production line, minimizing labor while maintaining precision and round-the-clock output.
Q: Which machines were used in this automated CNC line?
A: Three Ingenious Machinery ML-560S CNC lathes with gantry loaders, combined with an auto flushing system, a laser measuring system, and an auto offset compensation system.
Q: Can Ingenious Machinery build a one-man operation line for automotive parts?
A: Yes. This Czech Republic project was built specifically for high-precision automotive parts. Ingenious Machinery (formerly YDPM) designs automated turning and milling cells tailored to each customer’s parts and precision requirements.
